OVERVIEW


The City of Branson welcomes Short-Term Rental (STR) businesses. Each year, Branson has millions of visitors and STRs are a great option for them to stay and play. Each STR business has certain qualifications that must be met prior to opening its doors to transient guests.

 

   IS MY PROPERTY CONSIDERED A SHORT-TERM RENTAL?


Short-Term Rental means any dwelling unit (guest room/rooms provided) advertised, offered, or operated for lodging accommodations for a period of not less than one night and not more than 30 consecutive days, but does not include rentals that operate within a primary residence or lodging establishments.

WHAT DO I NEED TO OPERATE A SHORT-TERM RENTAL BUSINESS? 


To operate a STR in the City of Branson, you’ll need the following: 

  • A Short-Term Rental business license.
  • A Short-Term Rental permit.  
  • A Tourism Tax bond collected during the application process.

These can be obtained and paid for via Branson’s Citizenserve portal.

SHORT-TERM RENTAL BUSINESS LICENSE


Short-Term Rentals are a type of business license (ORDI: Chapter 22 - Businesses).

  1. A separate Short-Term Rental business license is required for each business address.
  2. The Short-Term Rental business license annual fee is $100.
  3. The license year runs from May 1st to April 30th of the following year.
  4. Licenses must be renewed each year by April 30th to avoid a late penalty.
  5. To obtain your Short-Term Rental business license, you will do the following:
    • Complete a Short-Term Rental business license application
    • Provide a valid, government issued identification for the person signing the application as the responsible party. 
    • Register a fictitious name with the Missouri Secretary of State if operating under a DBA Name (Doing Business As name).
    • Register your Legal Entity name if required by the Missouri Secretary of State (i.e. LLCs, Corporations, etc.)
    •  Provide a copy of your Missouri Retail Sales Tax license issued by the Missouri Department of Revenu
    • All Short-Term Rental businesses are required to obtain and maintain a Missouri Retail Sales Tax license.

STR PERMIT   


To operate a Short-Term Rental business, an STR Permit is required. The STR Permit fee is $150 and must be paid prior to scheduling your fire safety inspection. All STR Permit fire safety inspections will be scheduled through Branson’s Citizenserve portal once your STR Business License application has been accepted. The STR Permit is issued by the Fire Department after an approved fire safety inspection. An approved STR Permit (fire safety inspection) will expire 3 years after the approval date and shall be assignable and/or transferable.

In each Short-Term Rental business address, an STR Emergency Safety Plan and emergency evacuation map (specific to each business address) is to be posted.
