Building Permit Fees

The City of Branson has adopted a new building permit fee structure to ensure fairness, transparency, and consistency in how fees are assessed. This update modernizes the process by aligning permit fees with nationally recognized standards and introducing clear categories for different project types.

Background of the Ordinance

At the April 22, 2025 Board of Aldermen meeting, the ordinance to revise permit fees received its first reading. The final reading and approval took place on May 13, 2025.

This ordinance amends Chapter 18 of the Branson Municipal Code, updating permit fees and the fee schedule to reflect a fair and objective process.

Historically, permit fees were calculated based on construction values provided by applicant, an approach that could be subjective and inconsistent. The new ordinance, which goes into effect October 15, 2025, introduces a standardized system using the Internation Code Council’s (ICC) Building Valuation Data and a local multiplier. This model is widely recognized and is already used by the majority of communities nationwide, ensuring Branson’s process is aligned with industry standards.

Key highlights:

  • Two permit categories:
    • Stand-Alone Permits – Flat fees for specific projects (e.g., decks, pools, solar panels, demolitions, water heaters).
    • Building Work Area Permits – Fees based on square footage multiplied by ICC Building Valuation Data and the City’s multiplier. Remodels and shell permits will be assessed at 75% of the calculated fee.
  • Updated fees: Adjustments for plan reviews, re-inspections, temporary certificates of occupancy, and penalties for work without permits.
  • Technology & application fees: Remain unchanged at $30 (technology) and $50 (application).

This ordinance ensures Branson’s permit system is equitable, transparent, and consistent with best practices across the country.
